DJ Drizzle
When others are satisfied with mediocrity, DJ Drizzle aims for perfection. The Cincinnati-based DJ knew at an early age that he had an ability to influence a party, and he used that ability to create a successful brand for himself. “I started DJing in middle school,” Drizzle tells the story of his humble beginnings. “My uncle was the biggest DJ and promoter in the city at the time, so I looked up to him because I didn’t have a father figure.”
In high school, Drizzle became the go-to-guy for playing the hits. When other DJs were being hired to spin by promoters, Drizzle was busy throwing his own parties. Inspired by legends like Kid Capri, Jam Master Jay, and Jazzy Jeff, Drizzle learned how to keep a crowd hype. “I’m more of a mixer than just a shouter and drop the next song,” he says. “I like to keep the party going.”
Though he took time off from DJing to play basketball and football in college, he always returned to what he did best, and it wasn’t long before people took notice and dubbed him “Cincinnati’s Official Street DJ.” Branching out from the college party scene, Drizzle began working with artists more hands on. “I got a studio and start doing mixtapes with local artists,” he explains. “The mixtapes got me a state-to-state name.” Known for cranking out nearly 3,000 tapes a month in the Ohio market, Drizzle has worked with both Midwest and national musicians alike.
Along with his club and mixtape gigs, Drizzle also mixed on 88.3 fm, a community station that won Best College Radio Station in Ohio. He had the opportunity to spin on Radio One 101.1 Wiz fm as well. When it comes to the style that makes him popular, Drizzle explains, “I break the new music they don’t hear all the time on radio. I mix in what I think is gonna be hot a few months later.” By being a trendsetter, and filtering in southern music that people relate to, he became an integral part of the Ohio music scene.
A little over a year ago, DJ Drizzle was inducted into the Hittmenn DJs crew, where he works side by side with Kaspa, the association’s President. As a Hittmenn DJ, Drizzle strengthened his stamp of approval, and gained more nationwide recognition. He obtained countless accolades, such as appearances in publications like OZONE, The Leak, Fushion, Tru Color, City Beat, Boss, GritsandEggs.com, and several others. Alongside his press endorsements, he also won 3rd Finger Record Pool’s DJ of the Month, and received 6 Ohio Hip Hop Awards nominations in one year.
Recently Drizzle expanded his resume to include A&R and promotions, as he’s currently working with Cincinnati-based label Ameer Records and their first artist Young Dunny. Drizzle consults for a label in Cleveland and Louisville as well.
As an overachiever, Drizzle knows there’s more ground to cover in his worldwide quest as a DJ, and overall power player in the music business. While strategizing his next move, Drizzle always has a higher level in mind, not only for himself, but also for others. “I want to get more talent out of the Midwest that often gets overlooked,” he concludes. “Seeing an artist start from scratch and succeed really motivates me.”
